Processing of personal data by Facebook

On 5 June 2018, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruled that the operator of a Facebook page and Facebook are jointly responsible for the processing of personal data (http://curia.europa.eu/juris/document/document.jsf?text=&docid=202543&pageIndex=0&docl%20%20ang=DE&mode=req&dir=&occ=first&part=1&cid=298398).

I am aware that Facebook processes user data for the following purposes:

  • Advertising (analysis, creation of personalized advertising)
  • Creating of user profiles
  • Market research

Facebook uses cookies for recording and further processing this information, i.e. small text files that are stored on a user’s various end devices. If a user has a Facebook profile and is logged in, the recording and analysis of data also takes place across devices.

For more information on data processing, see Facebook’s privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/

For more information on opting out, see: https://www.facebook.com/ads/preferences/?entry_product=ad_settings_screen and http://www.youronlinechoices.com.

Facebook Inc., the US parent company of Facebook Ireland Ltd. is certified under the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield and commits to comply with European data protection guidelines. For more information on Facebook’s Privacy Shield status, see:

The transfer and further processing of personal data of users to third countries, such as the USA, as well as the associated possible risks for users cannot be excluded by me as operator of this page.

Statistical data

Via Facebook page “Insights”, different categories of statistical data are available to me. These statistics are generated and provided by Facebook. As the operator of this page, I have no influence over the creation and display of these statistics. I cannot deactivate this function or prevent the generation and processing of data. For a selectable period of time, as well as for the categories fans, subscribers, persons reached and interacting persons, the following data will be provided to me by Facebook in relation to my Facebook page:

Total number of page views, “likes”, page activities, post interactions, reach, video views, post reach, comments, shared content, responses, proportion of men and women, country and city origin, language, shop views and clicks, route planner clicks, phone number clicks.

This also provides data on the Facebook groups linked to my Facebook page. Due to the continuing development of Facebook, the availability and processing of data is changing. For more details, see the Facebook Privacy Statement above.

I use this aggregated information to make my Facebook page posts and activities more attractive to users. For example, I use age and gender distributions to customize the way I interact with my users and their preferred visiting times to optimize the scheduling of my posts. Information about the type of end devices used by visitors helps me to adapt the visual design of my posts accordingly. According to the Facebook Terms of Use, which each user agrees to when creating a Facebook profile, I can identify subscribers and fans of my page and view their profiles and other shared information.
